An exposition of Jeremiah 16:1-21. This message by Pastor Rod Harris was delivered at Trinity Baptist Church on Sunday evening, May 9, 2008.
God kept telling Jeremiah to preach the same message for forty years. Why does he continue this way for so long? The key is found in the last verse of this chapter:
“Therefore, behold, I will make them know, this once I will make them know my power and my might, and they shall know that my name is the LORD.”
Jeremiah 16:21
Three things to pull out of this passage:
- In verses 1-9 we see there is a high cost to obedience.
- In verses 10-13, and 17-18, we are shown the great wickedness of sin.
- We stand and marvel at the wonder of God’s sovereign grace, as seen tucked in at verses 14-16, and 19-20.
Conclusion: As a new creation in the Lord Jesus Christ, he has removed from us the fear of living and the fear of dying. Therefore we should go out and eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we live.
